Introduction[]
The Grammarian is a useful role which concentrates on the language usage of speakers, advising improvements which would be useful to all.
Skills involved include careful listening, attention to detail, critical thinking, evaluation skills, and speedy preparation of a report.
Before the meeting[]
Find out if the meeting has a theme, or the table topics, and try to match the Word of the Day to it.
Prepare with a meeting agenda to correlate who is speaking with your notes.
During the meeting[]
Make notes of any special language usage and grammatical errors of speakers. Especially note any good use of figures of speech such as similes, metaphors or alliteration.
Track the usage of the word of the Day.
Generalize if multiple speakers make similar mistakes, producing general recommendations.
Put yourself in the position of a listener with a native language not that of the speaker! Note down unusual words or jargon for possible explanation.
For your report[]
Select a theme and points to make that are useful to speakers and all the attendees. Limit yourself to keep to the time limit (2-3 minutes).
Concentrate on positive features and be motivating. The report is an evaluation - be subjective and constructive in your advice.
